Way back in 2011, I helped create one of the first sets of infographics on the topic of web performance. Why? Because at the time, it felt like the performance space was filled with words, numbers, and spreadsheets. Nobody was talking about performance in a way that put a human face on it.
Fast-forward to the present. I’ve created a bunch more performance-related infographics since 2011, and it’s been awesome to see that more people in our industry are using visuals to tell web performance stories in creative ways. (Over on Pinterest, Sergey Chernyshev and I are curating a WPO infographics board. Check it out and let us know if we’ve missed any!)
I thought it would be fun to revisit that first set of graphics from 2011. Working with my friends at Eclipse Creative, we gave a much-needed update to the stats around user expectations and page size. We also updated the case studies to reflect some newer performance success stories that deserve some attention.
But one thing we held on to was the visual focus on people — because it never hurts to be reminded that web performance is about human beings first.
Please feel free to use and share these graphics. And as always, I welcome your feedback!
