Monitoring the CPU Usage of a Server

Use the following steps to monitor the CPU usage of a server:

  1. First, you’ll need to create a Monitoring Server to define the connection method and credentials of the target server.  During creation of the Monitoring Server, select “System Resources” as a resource type.  System Resources include CPU, memory, disk and network usage. For a detailed walkthrough of how to create a Monitoring Server, see “Creating a New Monitoring Server”.

  1. After the Monitoring Server has been created, create a new Monitor to specify which resources from the Monitoring Server you would like to observe, in this case, CPU.  In the System Resources section of the Monitor, select “CPU” and provide a sample rate. For a detailed walkthrough of how to create a Monitor, see “Creating a New Monitor”.

  1. The monitor can be started manually (see “Starting and Stopping a Monitor”), or when a composition plays (see “Starting a Monitor Automatically When a Test Composition Runs”).
