A Playlist is a list of Test Compositions that can be played either sequentially or simultaneously. Playlists serve the same purpose as playlists in digital music applications.
A Test Composition is a multi-track interface where test clips can be placed at different times and tracks to create complex testing scenarios. This interface is similar to music and movie digital creation tools. Test compositions are created by simply dragging and dropping clips directly onto the timeline based on when the clips should execute in the test.
The building block of testing in SOASTA CloudTest is the Test Clip. A test clip is a visual script that is composed of a series of timed or sequenced events (an event can be, for example, an http message, a SOAP message or a UI event in a browser). Once built and debugged, these test clips can be reused for any type of testing . . . functional testing, load testing, performance testing and Web UI testing where appropriate. This is a very powerful feature of the SOASTA CloudTest design that can substantially improve the productivity of a testing team.
A Message is the raw text or XML that is sent to a web service or web application. For example, this can be the SOAP envelope sent to a SOAP web service or text sent to a JMS or a REST, HTTP, or XML-RPC service. Messages are represented in SOASTA CloudTest as boxes with the operation name and service logo on it.
