Installing SOASTA Conductor

SOASTA Conductor is an application that runs on a client machine. You will need to install a SOASTA Conductor on a machine for any one of the following purposes:

  1. To record HTTP network traffic
  2. To record HTTPS network traffic
  3. To run tests through a browser
  4. To monitor machine statistics (CPU usage, for example)

To install SOASTA Conductor, use your browser to navigate to the SOASTA CloudTest Welcome page. On the right hand side of the Welcome page are three boxes. The bottom box is labeled “Download” and the first item under Download is “Conductor Installer”.

Click on this link and you will be presented with a page that contains three possible downloads, one each for Windows, Mac and Linux. Click on the platform that applies to you. This will cause the SOASTA Conductor Installer to be downloaded to your machine. Once the installer has been downloaded, run the installer.

Installing the Conductor on your machine involves the following steps:

  1. The first screen you will see is a Welcome screen for the SOASTA Conductor Setup Wizard. Click on “Next” to continue.

The next screen, SOASTA Conductor Capabilities, allows you to enable or disable specific capabilities and express options relating to port settings, etc. Unless you have a specific reason to change one of the default settings, it is probably best to leave these settings as they are. Click on “Next” to continue.

  1. The next screen, Select Destination Directory, allows you to select an application directory different from the default. Again, leave this setting as the default unless you have a specific reason to change it. Click on “Next” to continue. The SOASTA Conductor directory will be created and files installed as soon as you do so.

  1. The next screen, Identify Your Conductor and CloudTest Site, presents you with the connection information SOASTA Conductor needs to connect to SOASTA CloudTest. The information you need should be filled in for you. The first field is the name automatically assigned to your SOASTA Conductor. You can change this name if you like, but it must be unique for your installation. For information about Advanced options, see the topic “SOASTA Conductor Connectivity Options”. Click “Next” to continue.

  1. The final input screen, User IDs and Passwords, prompts you to enter your SOASTA CloudTest login information. If required, (normally this would apply to HTTPS sites only), enter your HTTP authentication user name and password. Click “Next” to continue.

  1. The final screen, Completing Your SOASTA Conductor Setup Wizard, allows you to select whether or not you want to run SOASTA Conductor immediately. Click “Finish” to complete the installation.
