Creating an HTTP Recording

In order to create an HTTP Recording, please follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you have a SOASTA Conductor running on the machine with the network traffic you wish to record. Note: If you are recording encrypted traffic (HTTPS), please see the topic, “Creating an HTTPS Recording”.

  1. Use your browser to visit the SOASTA CloudTest Repository page. Highlight “Recordings” and click on the “New” icon in the upper left hand corner of the screen.

  1. You will be presented with the first step of the recording wizard. Select the desired SOASTA Conductor from the list and click on the “Next” button.
  1. In Step 2 of the Wizard you will be presented with information that relates to the selected SOASTA Conductor. Note that the “Status” should display “Connected”. If it does not, then it is likely that your Conductor has not been started. To start a Conductor, locate the directory where you installed  SOASTA Conductor and start the “SOASTA Conductor” application. Use the “Recording Name” and “Save to Folder” fields to change the default name and folder locations if desired. Click on the “Record” button.

The next screen displays HTTP messages as they are recorded. The SOASTA Conductor should display a status of “Recording” (Windows users may need to right-click on the tray icon to see the status). Typically, you will generate HTTP traffic by bringing up a browser window and running through the user scenario you wish to record.

  1. Typically, you will generate HTTP traffic by bringing up a new browser window. As HTTP traffic is generated, the Recording screen will display the recorded traffic.
  1. If you wish to see the underlying network traffic, you can click on “Show Packets” in the upper right hand corner of the Recording screen.

  1. During your recording the status bar at the bottom of the Recording screen displays information about the data being recorded. The values displayed are:
    • The elapsed recording time
    • The number of HTTP messages recorded
    • The number of network packets recorded
    • The amount of data recorded
  1. When you are done generating HTTP traffic, click on the square “Halt” button in the lower left hand corner of the Recording screen. The message “Finalizing Recording” will display in the upper right hand corner of the screen and will then change to “Recording Finished”. The SOASTA Conductor status should display “Finished Recording”.
