New release of mPulse delivers all the data, custom controls and business relevance to allow any company to deliver amazing user experiences

O’REILLY VELOCITY 2013, Santa Clara, CA, June 18th, 2013SOASTA®, Inc., a leader in mobile and cloud testing, today announced the newest version of mPulse. Using real user monitoring (RUM), mPulse effectively and non-invasively measures the real user experience by providing customized metrics and timers, and grants real-time, actionable intelligence via stunning visuals to operations and marketing professionals. These features enable business to remain competitive and improve customer retention by optimizing the user experience on mobile and web applications. A free version, mPulse Lite, is now available with custom metrics to enhance RUM analytics for everyone.

“mPulse has enhanced our business by providing us with actionable data to see the real user impact on our business,” said Charanjeet Singh, CTO of Backcountry, an online retailer for premium outdoor gear and accessories. “Our users are the driving force of our business, and by better understanding them, we can provide the best possible service to keep them coming back.”

The new release of mPulse extends SOASTA’s technology leadership in RUM with its acquisition of Lognormal and the work by industry veterans Buddy Brewer and Philip Tellis. Brewer and Tellis are best known in the performance industry for their creation and contributions to Boomerang, the leading open source RUM solution on the market today.

Collecting all real user data and integrating it with third party back end data sources such as New Relic, AppDynamics, Amazon CloudFront, CA Wily and OpTier, mPulse provides complete and immediate insight to issues such as high exit rates and low app usage. It measures user experience with custom metrics tied to the business, furthering a company’s ability to respond intelligently to an application’s performance on actual user behavior. Delivered with stunning, intuitive and interactive views, customers can see what matters to the business before it impacts revenue, brand and reputation.

New Features in this release of mPulse include:

  • Collection of ALL the Data – Running on SOASTA’s massively scalable analytics engine, mPulse collects all the data on up to billions of beacons, without compromise. With 100% of the data to report on, no blind spots in user behavior are overlooked.
  • Custom Timers – From banner ads, to social media widgets and vital page fragments, mPulse now gives developers and designers the control they need to create custom timers based on what matters to them. Measure beyond simple page speed to custom components and 3rd party services to provide indisputable, finite data for Service Level Agreement (SLA) management and enforcement.
  • Custom Metrics – By enabling companies to define the values that measure their specific business goals, whether that is revenue or conversion rate, mPulse delivers results that are unique to each company.
  • End-to-End Views of Real User Impact – SOASTA’s growing partner ecosystem includes the likes of OpTier, Tealium, SiteSpect and Instart Logic. mPulse aggregate and correlates front and back-end data to deliver comprehensive views of user impact on the entire technology stack.

“As the leader in enterprise tag management, Tealium enables customers to easily deploy innovative analytics solutions,” Said Jeff Lunsford, Tealium CEO. “SOASTA’s mPulse is one of those enterprise solutions that provides customers advanced notice and rich intelligence about how real user performance impacts their web and mobile business.”

“Since its release, mPulse has been widely adopted by companies and business leaders so that they can quickly respond to real user experiences and provide effective resolutions quickly,” said Tom Lounibos, SOASTA CEO. “Our customers tell us that the user experience is paramount. mPulse Lite puts powerful RUM analytics in the hands of everyone so companies of all sizes can further customize real-time analytics and make informed business decisions based on the activity of real web and mobile users.”

88% of Americans Have Negative Feelings about Brands with Poorly Performing Websites and Mobile Apps

SOASTA’s 2013 Website and Mobile App Survey reveals how Americans feel about companies and their brand if they do not fulfill a user’s online expectations

O’REILLY VELOCITY 2013, Santa Clara, CA, June 18th, 2013SOASTA®, Inc., a leader in mobile and cloud testing, today announced the findings of its 2013 Website and Mobile App Survey. Conducted online by Harris Interactive, the SOASTA survey questioned 2,046 American adults. The survey found that almost nine out of ten Americans associate negative feelings with brands that have poorly performing websites and mobile apps (88%), and have a negative reaction when a website is too slow (83%).

“Just as brick-and-mortar businesses invest heavily in their storefront to represent their brand image, our research shows that ecommerce retailers need to create a similar high quality online experience in keeping with the brand perception,” said Tom Lounibos, SOASTA CEO. “If companies want to remain competitive in the modern landscape, they need their web and mobile websites to engage the user and work as expected. Those that are creating a seamless and enjoyable online user experience are reaping the benefits.”

Among those with negative feelings associated with a brand that has a poorly performing website or mobile app, these feelings include:

  • Annoyance (75%)
  • Frustration (69%)
  • Distrust (19%)
  • Anger (13%)
  • Disrespect (12%)

For those Americans who said they have a negative reaction when a website takes too long, 28% would visit a competitor’s website, 27% would not trust the website, 18% would not visit that page again, and 13% would think the site may have been hacked. More men than women said they would visit another website (32% v. 25%).

Most Americans said what is most important to them when it comes to a website or mobile app is that the product works whenever they need it (72%). This was followed by American adults who said products that are fast and have no waiting time (62%); perform as expected (62%); do not crash (53%); provide trustworthy results (45%); and are fun to use (38%).

Survey Methodology:
This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of SOASTA from June 7-11, 2013 among 2,046 adults ages 18 and older. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated. SOASTA Broadens Leadership with Cloud Testing in Production

Innovation Continues with Mixing Board Controls for Dynamic Load Testing and Global Test Cloud Expansion to Asia

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 14, 2013SOASTA®, Inc., a leader in mobile and cloud testing, today announced expanded capabilities of the CloudTest product on the SOASTA platform. Driven by customer load testing in production environments, CloudTest now includes new features to further improve testing time-to-results. SOASTA has also added new cloud capacity across Asia – increasing the Global Test Cloud to include over 750,000 globally distributed, cloud-based load servers.

New CloudTest Capabilities Further Compress Testing Time-To-Results

“Given the business impact, demand for speed and deployment complexity for software, organizations seek features such as test load creation on the fly as well as granular visibility into the impact of specific aspects of their web and mobile applications and flexible editing of test cases including during recording,” said Melinda Ballou, program director for IDC’s Application Lifecycle Management and Executive Strategies service. “We increasingly see the evolution of test solutions to provide these and other capabilities.”

mix-boardMixing Board Controls for dynamic ramp adjustment carries on SOASTA’s patented music-mixing paradigm with slider controls for increasing or decreasing distributed user traffic loads while tests are running. Changes and adjustments can be made during tests without stopping, starting or rescheduling.

Active Waterfall Charts provide live views of the most time-consuming elements of front-end web performance. Static waterfall charts are a well-known resource for single-user diagnostics and optimization. But now within CloudTest, live views of how individual web elements affect the overall user experience can be viewed and analyzed in the context of end-to-end performance tests while they execute.

Record to Clip capabilities accelerate test creation time by enabling advanced editing of test cases in line while tests are recorded. CloudTest users can now further streamline test creation by interactively editing test cases during the recording process. This allows experienced users to compress the steps of recording a test and editing the test into one continuous task — further decreasing pre-test activities.

“At Experian Marketing Services we’re committed to continuing to build a world class global QA organization, and SOASTA’s CloudTest platform has been instrumental in enabling us to successfully achieve key goals. CloudTest is empowering our global development teams to address issues earlier in the process, as well as test applications faster, more rigorously, and at scale for less cost.” said Larry Cohen, Global Head of QA at Experian Marketing Services. “As a result, our clients directly benefit as we are able to deliver a robust and resilient product.”

“So far, we have been using CloudTest for functional and performance testing on our web applications, and it has become a fundamental part of our QA process as it helps to detect defects or risks at earlier stages of the development,” said Carlos Monroy, Global Tech Lead, QA Automation at Experian Marketing Services. “For example, with our new global Cross-Channel Marketing Platform, we have been able to execute more complex tests in less time; with the additional benefit of transparency, as all the teams involved know in advance what and how everything is going to be tested.”

“We are very excited about using the latest SOASTA CloudTest release for our new global Cross-Channel Marketing Platform,” added Cohen, “This will enable us to dial traffic up or down in real-time, regardless of the scale of the test, accelerate test creation time, and get live insight into all the performance elements that could impact our users’ experiences around the globe, which is very important to us.”

Test Cloud Expansion Extends Cloud Testing Coverage in Asia

With new Cloud Service Providers like StratoGen and uCloud, plus additional cloud locations from Amazon AWS, Google, HP Cloud and IBM Smart Cloud, SOASTA’s Global Test Cloud now offers web and mobile traffic generated from China, Taiwan, Japan and Australia from cities including Beijing, Hong Kong, Jinghua, Tianjin, Tokyo, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore, Sydney and Yunfu. Already the largest test cloud of available load generators, customers continue to benefit from SOASTA’s ever-expanding ability to scale to any level of traffic as global public and private cloud computing platforms expand.

“We’re pleased to welcome SOASTA, the leader in cloud testing, to our cloud platform.” Said Karl Robinson, Sales Director at StratoGen. “We’re excited to provide SOASTA with additional cloud capacity in Asia as well as the UK and US to best support the expanding global demand of customers who need accurate and realistic tests for their web and mobile apps.”

“The world’s best companies use SOASTA CloudTest to optimize user experiences and protect web and mobile revenue,” said Tom Lounibos, SOASTA CEO. “In fact, one of the nation’s biggest retailers saved an estimated $30,000 in revenue in the first hour of launch using SOASTA CloudTest. We’ve become an enterprise fixture with capabilities driven by customers pushing the edge of testing, who in turn, push us to continued levels of market leadership.”

All of the capabilities described here are shipping and available to SOASTA customers today. To learn more and see the entire set of new CloudTest capabilities, please join the live webinar “Load Testing Tips from the Cloud Testing Leader” at 10:00 a.m. PST on May 16, 2013. Register HERE.
